Petitions on women's safety are among the most read on any civic platform in Pakistan, and among the most likely to attract hostile responses. Both facts are worth planning for before you publish.

Who is answerable

Pakistan has provincial commissions on the status of women, provincial ombudsperson offices dealing with workplace harassment, and departments responsible for transport and local facilities. Which one to name depends on what you are asking for.

For a workplace issue, the harassment ombudsperson route exists and is separate from a public petition. For lighting, transport and facilities, it is the local or provincial authority.

Protecting yourself while campaigning

Your account shows a username, not your real name, and your real name is never published. Think about whether details in the petition text itself would identify you or someone else.

Do not include a third person's name, workplace or photograph without their consent. If a petition is about something that happened to someone else, ask them first.

If comments on your petition become abusive, you can mute individual accounts from the discussion, and moderators will act on reports.
